The Royal part of the name was added in 1866 after a visit from the Prince of Wales, later Edward VII.

"This was the second time I stayed and was not disappointed. Another superb stay with polite, attentive staff with an excellent breakfast. I will be staying in Grantham again early next year and will certainly book to stay again. Secure free parking just behind the hotel. Quality and pleased to recommend"

"This hotel with a grand history is really an experience. You can almost feel the history in the air. The staff is really friendly, giving you directions and helping you in anyway possible. The room I had was fantastic, obviously old, but that really adds to the ambiance.
